การติดตั้ง mrtg เพื่อ monitor ดู traffic ใน lan card แต่ละใบใน mode graphic ในตัวอย่างนี้จะใช้ร่วมกับ webmin เพื่อความสะดวก
login ด้วยสิทธิ์ root ทำการติดตั้ง snmp service ก่อน (ดูการติดตั้ง snmp ได้ที่หน้า http://www.compware-agency.com/forum/index.php?topic=10.0)
แล้วทำการติดตั้งโปรแกรม mrtg ด้วยคำสั่ง apt-get install mrtg
root@dtc:~# apt-get install mrtg <---- ติดตั้งโปรแกรม mrtg
หลังจากนั้น login ด้วย root account ผ่าน webmin
ทำการติดตั้ง module mrtg โดยคลิกที่ menu webmin ---> webmin configuration ---> webmin modules
-เลือก from ftp or http URL
พิมพ์ http://www.jla.homepage.t-online.de/pub/webmin/mrtg-0.2p3.wbm ลงในช่องว่างแล้วคลิก install module
- หลังจากติดตั้ง module mrtg ให้ทำการ config โปรแกรม mrtg โดยคลิกที่ menu networking ---> Multi Router Traffic Grapher --> คลิก check module configuration first เพื่อกำหนดค่า config โปรแกรม mrtg
mrtg script : /etc
mrtg image : /var/www/mrtg
configuration files : /etc
html output : /var/www/mrtg
virsion : 2.1.4.5
browser style : use webmin windows
mrtg mode : user cron
- ใส่ค่าตามภาพ แล้วคลิก save
- คลิกที่ mrtg configuration เพื่อตั้งค่า
้- host ใส่ค่าเป็น localhost และ community ใส่ค่าเป็น public จากนั้นคลิก add host ---> คลิกที่ view/edit

- กลับมาหน้า mrtg configuration แล้วคลิก run เป็นอันเสร็จ
ไปที่ website : http://localhost/mrtg หรือ http://127.0.0.1/mrtg หรือ http://your-ip/mrtg
หากเกิด error ขึ้นให้ลอง check ที่ ip dns client หรืิิอ service ของ apache2 หรือ service ของ snmp
